Malaria Consortium outlines seven ways to tackle the scourge of antimicrobial resistance

Malaria Consortium is delighted to announce the publication of an opinion paper on a key threat to global health – antimicrobial resistance.

The paper, Antimicrobial resistance: A growing threat to global health, highlights the current dangers of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and what actions need to be taken by governments, individuals and the global health community to save lives and halt the spread of AMR.

AMR contributes to at least 700,000 deaths a year. If nothing is done now, by 2050 that figure could be as high as 10 million, with the greatest impact falling on low and middle-income countries (LMICs). The cost to the global economy could be as high as $100 trillion.

As a leading technical organisation specialising in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases, Malaria Consortium is gravely concerned about the impact of AMR on public health, including ongoing malaria control and elimination efforts. AMR threatens to reverse decades of progress across the health and environment sectors, and it is crucial that we come together as a community to find solutions to this global problem.
